As a CCAB qualified accountant I have enjoyed a successful career at Executive Board level in organisations with multi billion pound budgets. I have been involved in developing strategy and innovative business solutions across the NHS and am an expert in change management processes.

Throughout my career I have focussed on building high performing teams and training financial professionals. On moving to University Campus Oldham I have developed Foundation Degrees in Business and Finance and have taught on these programmes.

My professional interest is in ensuring that all graduate programmes develop independent learners with not just the technical knowledge but the skills and self-belief to perform effectively in a professional environment.

I am passionate about creating opportunities for individuals who may not have succeeded at school or college but who have a commitment to Higher Education. My role has also included establishing links with business networks and involving employers in the development of UCO programmes. In terms of employability, my aim is to work with local employers to create work placement opportunities for students and to involve employers in delivering guest lectures, mentoring and advising students.

As an accredited ACCA provider I established work based training for students undertaking professional accountancy examinations. As an NHS England Finance Director I was also involved in the development of the NHS “Future Focussed Finance” professional training scheme. I am therefore able to bring a combination of operational and strategic technical expertise and knowledge with the experience of practical applications and issues of delivery in a professional work environment.
My academic interests reflect my passion for the NHS and for developing effective business and finance professionals, My interest is in employability and equipping students with the skills and personal attributes to succeed in the workplace. I am passionate about creating opportunities for individuals who may not have the best academic record from school or college, but have the commitment and motivation to succeed in their chosen career.

My research interests include allocation of financial resources to improving population health outcomes, effective implementation of health strategy and pedagogy for employability. I am also interested in exploring innovative use of technology to overcome barriers to learning.
